Iranian Comprehensive Trade Policy Document
Abstract
With accelerated growth of international trade and increasing inclination toward trade liberalization and open economic policies in the past decade, the importance of formulating a comprehensive trade policy package cannot be overemphasized. However, for years, Iranian policymakers have neglected the need for a comprehensive document, which would detail Iranian trade policies in different sectors and explain how they relate to other policy goals of the country such as industrial and technological development, sustainable growth and facilitation of competitive environment. Therefore, a research project for creating this document was initiated by the Institute for Trade Studies and Research, using Iran’s previous experience and a comparative analysis of countries with similar economic structure. The research project is planned to be completed in four chapters. At the first chapter, the theoretical foundation of a possible trade framework for Iran will be laid and evaluated. Later, at the second and third chapters, the comparative experience of similar countries will be analyzed along with a critical review of the past Iranian experience; educative cases will be documented to be used in policy formulations. The last chapter will be designated to finalizing the framework and offering comprehensive trade policy solutions.
