The International Conference On Fourth Industrial Revolution- Tehran, August 2016
‘Industry 4.0’ stands for the fourth industrial revolution. Other related terms include the ‘Industrial Internet’ or the ‘Digital Factory’, although neither takes as complete a view. While Industry 3.0 focused on the automation of single machines and processes, Industry 4.0 focuses on the end-to-end digitization of all physical assets and integration into digital ecosystems with value chain partners. Generating, analyzing and communicating data seamlessly underpin the gains promised by Industry 4.0, which networks a wide range of new technologies to create value.
The first international industry 4.0 event in Iran was held by the Institute for Trade Studies and Research back in August 2016. The event focused on introducing the concept to Iranian policy makers, business community and scholars along with providing a discussion platform to explore how this new concept could be formulated and executed among Iranian industries. In addition to lectures given by speakers from well-known universities, research centers and companies of this field visiting under the name of European Project Leaders (epl), workshops were also organized to provide further opportunity for deeper engagement between industry 4.0 experts and the audience.
The main purpose of the conference was to demonstrate the importance of the industry 4.0 trend, and point out its implications for the future factories. Furthermore, raising awareness and familiarizing the Iranian industrial leaders, investors and policy makers with the concept was another priority for the conference. The conference also provided general guidelines on implementation practices and suggested different methods that Iran could use this new concept as leverage for its own industrial movement. Historical and theoretical dimensions of this new concept were not the only points raised and heated discussions on advantages of I4.0 for developing countries were conducted using real world cases.
Investors and industrial leaders declared their readiness for cooperating with EPL and asked for more information and programs in the future. The participant was also interested in supportive policies for encouraging industrial sectors to invest in industry 4.0 technologies and the government officials present at the event expressed their support for the industry 4.0 movement and promised to set up meetings for more collaboration with EPL.
The next industry 4.0 event is scheduled to be held on February 26th and 27th, 2017, in cooperation between EPL and ITSR.
